'Gunther's Million's trailer: a mega-rich dog owns Madonna's mansion and started a cult

Women in gold dresses surround a German shepherd in a beautiful mansion.

Would you believe me if I said Netflix is making a documentary about a dog worth $400 million that somehow ended up creating a cult? Probably not, but they are.

Gunther’s Millions follows the real-life story of Gunther VI, a German shepherd who inherited all of his owner’s wealth. And this is where things get weird. His owner was a mysterious countess with no heirs. So, she bestowed her multi-million fortune to her dog and placed him in the care of her deceased son’s close friend, Maurizio Mian. Then, Mian built an entire empire using his new canine friend.

The richest dog in the world owns private jets, eats gold-flaked steaks, and even bought Madonna’s mansion. While it’s fun, and slightly depressing, to marvel at a German shepherd living a life we can never come close to affording, Gunther’s Millions is a Netflix documentary at the end of the day, so naturally, things quickly turn dark.

There’s an entire web of lies behind Gunther’s fortune and a weird cult happening in his estate. A bunch of women lives in Gunther’s home to “keep him company,” which is evidently a guise for men’s follies to run free. Revealing one twisted spin after the other including tax fraud, the debate as to whether or not the countess was actually real, and that there may be more than one Gunther.

Through never-before-seen footage, interviews with the women who lived with Gunther, and a tell-all from Mian, the man behind every messed up thing you see in this trailer, Gunther’s Millions promises to be a whirlwind rollercoaster of the lies behind the world’s wealthiest pet.

Gunther’s Millions premieres on Netflix Feb. 1.
